The Richards brothers developed this gorgeous piece of real estate into a very nice golf course in 1990. Battle Creek is located on the Tulalop Indian Reservation, as is Kayak Point Golf Course.
This is an extremely tight course - either you hit the fairways or you are looking for your ball in the woods. Battle Creek is a thinking man's golf course. Golfers must be patient and willing to take something other than driver 7-iron.
In the past five years Battle Creek has made many improvements to the course. Superintendents have cleared much of the underbrush from the wooded-areas lining the fairways, making play back into fairway possible. They have also cut down many trees to allow sunshine to reach greens formally wet and in the shade.
The only downside to Battle Creek are the greens. They will never be spectacular. The greens are relatively flat and lack significant undulations.
Battle Creek has many notable holes: There is the signature 12th "The Rock". This is a 162-yard par-3 that plays over a rock the size of a house. But in my mind, the 18th hole could quite possible be the best finishing hole in Western Washington.
