Trophy Lake Golf & Casting
3900 SW Lake Flora Road, Port Orchard, WA 98366
If there is any one spot in the Seattle-area to gather up your sticks and head on out to the golf course, it would be the Kitsap Peninsula. The wealth of QUALITY courses includes Trophy Lake Golf & Casting, Horseshoe Lake, McCormick Woods and The Gold Mountain Golf Complex. And if you are up to traveling out a bit further, there is Alderbrook-complete with marina and a new hotel and spa facility.
Trophy Lake Golf & Casting is a close sibling of Washington National Golf Club. They are both owned and operated by The Heritage Golf Group. And both courses were designed by golf course architech John Fought. The two courses also share a key feature; deep white sand bunkers. If you are a fond of Washington National, then you are sure to enjoy the golf at Trophy Lake. But what really sets Trophy Lake apart from the other courses on the Kitsap Peninsula is the fly-fishing that you can enjoy before or after your round of golf. Trophy has four amply stocked fishing lakes. I feel that Trophy Lake has created a beautiful blend of two of the Northwest's favorite activities-golf and fishing.
Trophy Lake has a beautiful practice facility, with a natural grass driving range, putting green and practice bunkers so that you can hone your game and get a feel for the course before you head out for your round. Once on the course, you will find yourself amongst the Northwest's evergreens and fantastic vistas of the Olympic Mountains. The course is a well-maintained track. The one criticism I have of Trophy is that, although they have many greens that are multi-tiered, there is little or no break to your putts once you are on the proper tier. On the plus side, Trophy Lake has a nice blend of long challenging holes and shorter holes--that will either tempt you to bust a driver, or take the conservative route and lay-up with an iron.
And when you are done with your round you can sit, relax and enjoy Trophy Lake's fishing-lodge-style clubhouse that looks out over the 18th green and the waterfall that feeds the fishing lakes. The Dry Fly Café serves generous home-style portions. Here you can also partake in a Northwest microbrew. Once you have wound down sufficiently from your round, you can head out to one of four stocked fishing lakes. Trophy Lake has everything that you will need for a complete fishing experience-flies, rods and onsite instruction-- for those of you just starting out.
For a good taste of what the Kitsap Peninsula has to offer, I highly recommend a day of golf, fishing and relaxation at Trophy Lake Golf & Casting.
